Croatia on a global wine list
We bring introductory stories about two wineries – Vuglec breg from Zagorje and the Dalmatian Testament
Vuglec breg – Let all the senses enjoy
“Vuglec Breg” is located in the heart of Zagorje, only 40 km from Zagreb, on the beautiful Zagorje hill.
The wine-making story of the Vuglec family began in 2003, and they were guided by a strong will and vision in the continuation of the centuries-old tradition of viticulture and wine production. Their winery has become well known and an indispensable part of the tourist offer of Zagorje. Vuglec wines and sparkling wines, which exude a special terroir, are made from grapes grown on the southern slopes of the Vuglec hill, where they planted approximately 16,000 vines on about 4 hectares.
“Vuglec Breg” was founded on the foundations of the old Zagorje hamlet “Vugleci”, and the renovated settlement today consists of the original Zagorje “huts”, restaurant and wine cellar, gazebo with bread oven and barbecue, and vineyards, forests and pastures. The whole property covers over 12 hectares and as much as it captivates with its indentation and beauty, so selflessly from its top offers a beautiful view of the surroundings and other hills of Zagorje.
At the Meeting G2.8 Conference on July 5, 2022 in Zagreb, we will have the opportunity to hear an inspiring and interesting story about this top winery and its success – sign up and enjoy interesting conversations and top Croatian wines!
Testament – And Decanter goes to…
Dalmatia and Šibenik and its surroundings are full of breathtaking natural beauties, such as numerous and picturesque vineyards adorned with sunny slopes. Wine has been made here for two thousand years. Testament is located in the small town of Jadrtovac, among the hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea and the Šibenik archipelago. In this idyllic region, with the help of innovative technology, rich and complex wines are created that bring us closer to nature with their intoxicating taste. Testament vineyards are located in the wine-growing region of Northern Dalmatia, near the medieval town of Šibenik. The specific weather conditions and the specificity of the soil of the vine require a constant struggle for survival, and this age-old ritual is felt and seen in the intense, deep and full colors, flavors and aromas of wine.
The rise of the Testament was quite rapid. Starting with three labels from 2018 when the brand was formed – Opolo, Pošip and Babić – then Dalmatian dog Babić, Debit, Babić sparkling wine, macerated Pošip, Žutina, Tribidrag, Plavac, Prošek and Koral Babić – that, for example, matures under the sea, at a depth of 20 to 25 meters.
What’s Oscar in the world of film, it’s Decanter among the wines. It’s a sign that you’re great at what you do. So far, the Silver Decanter Testament winery has won for its Babić, and even two golds – one for Dalmatian Dog Babić, vintage 2016 and the other for Testament Pošip from 2019. This is the first gold at Decanter, the world’s most prestigious wine competition, for one Babić. And the one that is produced in commercial quantities and that everyone can afford. Out of 11 Croatian gold medals, this young winery proudly carries two!
The registration fee for this year’s Meeting G2.8 Conference is 100 euros, which includes participation in “WHO’S WHO IN G2”, panel, wine tasting and dinner.
