The challenges are immense, but more than ever, it is necessary to act together – at this year’s MG2 conference, a panel dedicated to innovative and sustainable solutions for environmental issues will feature scientists and entrepreneurs who have turned problems into solutions.
The President of the Croatian Waste Management Association and a professor at the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering in Varaždin, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Anić-Vučinić, will explain why she would rather leave a waste disposal site as an inheritance to her children than a villa by the sea, and what hidden potential waste disposal sites hold. She will also reveal the secret of scientific projects at the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering, where they educate the first generations of environmental engineers, who are developing the idea of using the sun to purify air and water.
Children playing in a bubble of clean air on playgrounds? Damir Kirić will tell us how his company Gumiimpex, in collaboration with scientists, is working on developing rubber-based surfaces made from recycled tires that will purify the air on children’s playgrounds using solar energy. It’s not science fiction but a real project co-funded by the European Union, demonstrating that a good idea can become a great business opportunity and part of the solution to pollution in urban areas.
