Meet the world known artists Charles Bilich and Ante Dabro
Join us on G2 Meeting to listen to their stories, and how being of Croatian descent has helped them achieve the success they have today
Charles Billich, born in Lovran, raised in Melbourne, Australia, conquered the world with his talents and honours – official artist for 1996 Formula 1 Melbourne; Peking Olympics 2008; Official artist for the nations of Australia and the USA for the Atlanta 1996 Olympics; Sydney Olympics 2000; Athens Olympics 2004, just to name a few.
Ante Dabro, a Croatian-born Australian artist/sculptor and art teacher who has lived and worked in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory since the late 1960s. Dabro’s sculptures are typified by angular form; many are nudes and bronzes. His work is said to embody universal themes, “suffering, hope, sexuality, heroism, spirituality” but also silently acknowledge the ‘outsider’.
Some of Dabro’s internationally acclaimed works include: Sir Winston Churchill (2001) – Sir Winston Churchill Trust; Royal Australian Memorial – sailors and ships (1986); Australian National University – contemplation (2002); and many others.
